Tata Motors has officially announced the name of its newest hatchback “Tata Zica” that has been referred by a ‘Tata Kite’ (Codename- Kite 4) till now. And the announcement was made by a teaser video featuring the football star and brand ambassador, Lionel Messi. Reportedly, a compact sedan (Codename– Kite 5) based on the car will also be unveiled.
Both new siblings will share the original X0 platform of Indica as a base, but it has few ‘tough points’ like the pedal box, engine firewall and wheelbase, there will be no carryover parts. The X0 platform itself will be worked well for the model to improve torsional rigidity, refinement and dynamics. Though in essence, both will be completely a new car.
The designers have made a lot of effort in styling the Zica family, which will come with Tata Motors new design language and will look quite different from anything in Tata product range. The car will be launched with its immediate rivals like the Wagon R and the Celerio from Maruti, the i10 and the Grand i10 from Hyundai and even the likes of the Renault Kwid.
Tata Zica hatchback and sedan will be offered in two variants, the all-new 1.2-litre petrol engine, which will deliver 84 bhp and 110 Nm of peak torque and the 1.05-litre diesel engine producing a power of 67bhp and about 140Nm of peak torque with a fuel efficiency of about 25 kmpl.
The Tata Zica will be revealed next month and is expected to launch in the first week of January 2016. The hatchback replacing the Tata Indica in the passenger car market, is expected to be priced from Rs 3.6 lakhs. The sedan based on the same car will be unveiled and is expected to launch in early 2016.
