One of the most important supercars to see the light of production day, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG has been retired for quite some time, but that doesn’t mean car fans have forgot about it. Seen here is one such example in U.S. specification getting crushed for reasons that are not known at the moment of writing. The attached footage appears to come from United States as there’s a huge truck in the background and there aren’t that many places around the world where you will be able to see such a behemoth.
Taking into account you can hear some Spanish in the audio, maybe this SLS AMG was illegally imported to Mexico and due to the local laws the supercar had to be destroyed. Another possible explanation could be extensive water damage, but that might not be the case as there would still have been some salvageable parts, such as the wheels.
Regardless of the reasons, it’s really a shame to see such a highly desirable supercar like the SLS AMG ending up in the crusher, regardless of what people did with the car. One ideal solution would have been to simply auction off the car and donate all of the proceeds to charity as this would have been a win-win situation.
Before ending up in the crusher, the SLS AMG appeared to be in top notch condition so most definitely it wasn’t the victim of a previous accident. Legal issues probably caused the supercar’s demise which had those orange side lights indicating it was manufactured for the U.S. market. This happened some time ago as the original video was posted on YouTube back in January, even though the attached footage was uploaded at the end of last months.
Hopefully this is not a common situation among supercars with a problematic background as it would be a real shame to see them being obliterated like this.
