Ford Mustang is one of the iconic cars from the gone era, but Ford doesn't want to lose the brand cult they have created. And hence, for the past few months, new Mustangs are making a lot of buzz. Adding to the list of awesomeness, Ford has officially unveiled the Shelby GT350R Mustang at the 2015 Detroit Motor Show. Touted as “the most track-ready road-going production Mustang ever built”, the car will be available later this year in US markets.
To make the car one of the best performing beasts, Ford has given an aerodynamic kit to the GT350R, which includes a new hood vent, an aggressive diffusor, vented wheel wells and turbulence-reducing fender vents, wheel air curtains and side skirts. To maximize the downforce, Ford has added a revised front splitter and an all-new carbon fiber wings on the rear.
Under the hood, the Shelby is powered by the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 engine from Ford. The engine is a 5.2 litre unit which produces more than 500 hp of power and 542 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. The GT350R is almost 60kg lighter than the GT350 Track Pack model, resulting in increased performance.
To reduce the weight, Ford will introduce a 19-inch lightweight carbon fiber wheels, making Ford the first major automaker to introduce this wheel technology as standard equipment. Also, to reduce the weight, Ford has removed the AC, the stereo system, the rear seats, the trunk floorboard and carpet, the backup camera and the emergency tire sealer and inflator.
