Nissan GT-R, commonly referred as the drift machine was set through its pace by the Nissan Middle East to set a new world record. The specially modified GT-R Nismo has set a new record for the world's fastest drift and will enter the prestigious Guiniess World Record books. Earlier this week, Nissan announced and teased a new world record in making, keeping much detail under the wrap.
But later today, Nissan announced that the sports car has attempted to break the record of the fastest drift lap and was successful in doing so. The record lap wax conducted by Nissan Middle East at a special event organized at the Fujairah International Airport, UAE. The specially tuned 2016 Nissan GT-R was developed in support with the Nismo specialist, the performance arm of Nissan Motors.
Nismo tuned the Nissan GT-R to produce 1380 horsepower and all the power produced was sent to the rear wheels. The car was tested extensively by Masato Kawabata, Japanese drift champion and the title holder of the Japanese drifting series, who was also present behind the wheels to break the record at the Japan's Fuji Speedway facility.
Kawabata managed to drift the Nissan GT-R Nismo at a record breaking speed of 304.96 kilometers per hour at an 30 degree angle. Nissan and Nismo were supported by GReddy Trust for this record attempt. This is the first time someone attempted and successfully crossed a drifting attempt above 300 kmph, again setting the credibility of GT-R as the best drifting machine.
“Once again, Nissan has broken a Guinness World Records title and has made international history for the fifth time in the Middle East,” Samir Cherfan, managing director of the Nissan Middle East, said. “The Nissan GT-R is one of the world’s most iconic supercars, proving time and again the incredible breadth of its capabilities, and has clearly demonstrated its performance leadership by beating the best drift cars out there. The fact that this achievement was set here in the UAE makes it even more special for our region. Setting this incredibly difficult world record was a clear demonstration of the excitement we are bringing to the Middle East with the Nismo brand.”
