The MPV market segment is one of the most competitive yet open market segment in India. Apart from a few players like Toyota, Maruti and Honda, none has been able to hold on to the nerves of the customers. And to fill this gap, Renault is ready with the much-awaited Lodgy MPV India. While some of the spy shots came out in the past, revealing the dimensions of the car, recently a Youtube user Swagat Tushar has posted a video of the car testing near the Yelagiri hills, Chennai.
Slated to launch in early 2015, the Lodgy was spied completely camouflaged. Though, not much is visible due to heavy camouflage, the MPV's design reminds us of the Toyota Innova, meaning the car will get enough space to sit 7 people comfortably. On a closer look though, one can see a three slat radiator grille and other minor changes from the Dacia Lodgy.
The Lodgy MPV will be based on the Renault Duster’s platform, and will be produced at the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s Oragadam plant in Chennai and will be designed by the company's design studio in Mumbai. The Lodgy MPV will get its interiors from the European model and will also be heavily inspired from the Duster compact SUV.
Under the hood, the Lodgy MPV will get its engine lineup from the Duster compact SUV. The MPV will be powered by a 1.5 litre K9K diesel engine that will come in two states of tune- 85 ps and 110 ps. While the 85 ps engine will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, the 110 ps engine can get a 6-speed manual transmission.
Th expected launch of the MPV will be around first quarter of 2015 and will fall in the price group from Rs 8 lakh to Rs 11 lakh (ex showroom).
