Ford is known for making some of the most iconic cars in the history of automobiles and some of the examples includes the Mustang 350 and the Ford GT. While they already presented the all-new Mustang GT few weeks back, Ford is now resurrecting its iconic and legendary Supercar, the GT. Ford has unveiled the all-new GT supercar concept at the ongoing Detroit Motor Show.
Ford GT has always been a high performance Supercar, thanks to a rear-wheel drive, mid-mounted engine and an extremely aerodynamic body. The new 2016 Ford GT will carry forward the same iconic design with a lightweight body made extensively from carbon-fibre and aluminium. The Supercar gets 20-inch alloy wheels and will be a 2-door coupe.
As much as the exteriors are modern yet retain their iconic touch, so are the interiors. The new Ford GT will get an F1 styled multi-function steering wheel and the paddle shifts will ensure the best performance. Ford's new SYNC-3 technology will play its role in the new coupe and a fully digital instrument control can be configured according to the driver's needs.
But what makes the GT stand apart and most iconic is not just the looks, but also the performance. Ford GT claims to be one of the best power to weight ratio car ever. The power will come from an advanced 3.5 litre V6 EcoBoost engine capable of generating output in excess of 600 hp. The engine is mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transaxle transmission. A rear spoiler is added which can be deployed to maintain traction at high speeds.
And when can we expect to see the car in a production avatar? Ford has confirmed that the car will go into production in 2016 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ford GT race cars that finished 1-2-3 at the 1966 24 Hours Le Mans race.
