We recently told you about Tata Motors, the home-grown automaker, appointing Lionel Messi - the Argentinian Football Captain & FC Barcelona's Star Striker - as the global brand ambassador of its passenger vehicle division. Now, the company has released a video featuring Messi, under the campaign 'Made of Great', which shows glimpses of the upcoming Kite hatchback. Tata Kite is expected to be unveiled next month - December 2015 - to the media.
Tata Kite has been spotted as test mule several times with camouflage on the Indian roads. The teaser video shows the headlights, front grille, door handles and the tail-lamp cluster of the Kite hatchback. The hatch is expected to enter production next month at company's manufacturing unit in Sanand, Gujrat. Being introduced under the company's HorizoNext product strategy, it is expected to replace the ageing Indica eV2. Besides the hatchback, Tata Motors would also introduce a compact sedan based on the same platform as the hatch, and it would be replacing the Indigo sedan.
Mechanically, Tata Kite hatch would be presented in both petrol and diesel fuel trims. The petrol variants would be powered by the company's 1.2L Revotron engine, which we have already seen in Zest and Bolt. However, the diesel variants would come loaded with an all-new 1.05L, 3-cylinder engine instead of the Fiat-sourced 1.3L Multi-jet engine. This newly-developed diesel motor would develop a maximum power of 64bhp and peak torque of 140Nm, while expected to return high fuel economy. The Kite is based on XO platform, and upon its launch in the country, it would challenge the likes of Maruti Celerio, Hyundai i10, Chevrolet Beat, and Renault Kwid.
