Video - Taxi ride in Armored Vehicle on offer in Russia

Snapshot: This one-of-its-kind service was recently granted permission to operate in the Saint Petersburg area, which is the second largest city in Russia.

Move over the regular Radio cabs, as the adventure junkies can avail a taxi ride on an armored vehicle in Russia. The service started recently, offers tourists visiting Russia a joyride in an armored reconnaissance vehicle which is now used as a taxi. This one-of-its-kind service was recently granted permission to operate in the Saint Petersburg area, which is the second largest city in Russia.

Russia, which is famous for using armored vehicles like tanks time and again for tourist attractions, initially rejected the application to start the taxi service. But, according to Russia Today, the BRDM APC (Combat Command and Reconnaissance Vehicle) now has been granted permission, which fulfilled its role in the military after implying certain regulations and rules over it.

The directions laid down to fulfill the requirements, includes the removal of a camouflaged pattern used in the army operations. Instead, a red color is directed as exterior paint rather than the usual yellow color of the taxis. Also, the vehicle can’t be used on certain streets to avoid damage to the historical significance of the city due to the massive weight of the vehicle which sits at 7900 kg.

The cost of a ride in the armored vehicle will set you back by 5000 rubles (about $89). This may sound large amount, but considering the terrains it can take you, this amount will be a well spent money. The vehicle is also amphibious and can travel on virtually any type of terrain. On the inside it gets electric windows and leather while the passengers are protected by 14mm (0.5 inches) thick armor.
