Tesla Model 3 has entered testing phase as a prototype has been spied in Palo Alto, California. The Model 3 would be the most affordable Tesla product, while the production starts from mid 2017 and deliveries start by the end of next year. It would be the company's first electric car to be launched in India in 2018. The Model 3 has been priced at $35,000 with bookings starting at $1,000 at Tesla website. Till date, the new electric car has secured over 4 Lakh orders worldwide.
Tesla Motors would start the deliveries with the West Coast, then move east in the US. With the increase in production gradually, the company would start the exports of the left-hand-drive model to European markets and Asia-Pacific. The deliveries of the right-hand-drive models would start by mid 2018. The company has confirmed that Ludicrous mode would be available in Model 3. It would be the fourth Tesla offering after the Roadster, Model S and Model X. The single-motor driven electric car would accelerate from 0-100kmph in a sub 6-second time, while offering a driving range of 346 kilometers. The Model 3 would be available in both Rear-Wheel-Drive (RWD) and All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) modes.
Elon Musk, CEO, Tesla Motors has said that Model 3 would be featuring the Autopilot software and the average price with options would be nearly $42,000. The electric sedan boasts of grille-less front fascia, panoramic glass roof and an elongated hood. Musk has said that, prior to the launch of Model 3 in India, Tesla would setup a network of superchargers nationwide for convenient charging of the sedan. As for safety, Musk confidently said that Model 3 would get top ratings from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in every category. Being powered by a 60kw hour lithium-ion battery pack, it would be at loggerheads with the Chevrolet Bolt EV.
