Rally racing is one of the most exciting form of motorsports in the world, and specially the FIA approved WRC which sees best of the best drivers competing in the most competitive cars. Volkswagen, the German car manufacturer is one of the leaders in the WRC and they have just released a new promotional video featuring Polo R WRC driven by Andreas Mikkelsen.
Andreas races down a hill against the downhill Skiing gold medalist Aksel Lund Svindal. The friendly competition was filmed at the famous Lyseveien road in Norway, one of the most treacherous yet beautiful 29 kilometres road with 27 hairpins. "The fjord, the steep mountainsides, the high snowbanks, the winding road – driving here is a dream," said Andreas.
The VW Polo R WRC is powered by a 1.6-litre straight-four turbocharged unit that is capable of generating 318 HP at 6250 rpm and 430 Nm at 5000 rpm. The power is sent to the front wheels via a sequential six speed racing gearbox. The Polo R WRC does 0-100 kmph in 3.9 seconds with a top speed of 200 kmph.
The Volkswagen team is leading the 2015 FIA World Rally Championship with almost double the points as compared to the trailing team. Andreas Mikkelsen, who was driving this particular Polo downhill is standing at the second position behind his teammate, Sebastien Ogier, who is currently leading the championship.
