Koenigsegg, the Swedish hypercar manufacturer is known for giving the world, some of the fastest cars ever. Be it the Aero TT, CCX or the Agera R, a Koeigsegg car is meant to go fast, insanely fast. The latest vehicle from the company is no different and promises a 0-100 kmph sprint in 2.8 seconds. But no, that's not the talking point of the car anymore, its Autoskin feature is!
Koenigsegg has showcased and announced the Autoskin feature for its Regera supercar. As cool as it sounds, the Autoskin feature is a cool feature in the real world after all. Described as a “robotized door system”, what the Autoskin basically does is allow the driver to open or close some of the body panels remotely without even touching the car, including doors, boot and hood!
Koenigsegg explains the system as a system that is “truly turning the Regera into a transformer” and relies on the hydraulics to operate every door on the vehicle. Interestingly enough, according to the Swedish company, this feature is not to aide the driver, but to keep the dirty hands of the car when it has been cleaned. Weird? Well, ask us!
And this is not the only unique technical feature on the Regera! Globally premiered during the Geneva Motorshow, the Regera also features “the world’s first fully foldable, active, top-mounted rear wing”, as the manufacturer announced then. Koenigsegg has not yet divulged any specifics about the pricing of the system and neither they have informed if this will be a standard or optional feature.
To give you a brief insight about the supercar, the Regera is powered by a KDD system, that comes with a 5.0-litre V8 engine and three electric motors. The combine output is “way over 1500 HP” and Koenigsegg says this is “the most powerful electrical motor set-up in production car history”. It achieves 0-100 kmph acceleration in 2.8 seconds with a top speed exceeding 400 kmph!
