Volkswagen India is all set to make its entry in the sub-4 metre compact sedan segment with the Ameo. First previewed a day before Delhi Auto Show 2016, has been specially built to cater the Indian car market and is the first car designed by Vokswagen India that will feature Indian Inputs. While the production version launching this festive season, it will feature some changes compared to the one previewed.
Under the hood, the Ameo will be offered in 1.2-litre petrol MPI and 1.5-litre TDI engines. The petrol unit is connected to a 5-speed manual gearbox that will produce 75 PS and 110 Nm of torque (same output as the Polo), while the Diesel motor will have an 1.5-litre TDI engines updated with a locally sourced, larger turbocharger that will increase the power output to 92 PS and 240 Nm of torque. Volkswagen India confirmed that the Ameo will offered with a choice of a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 7-speed DSG, also seen on the VW Vento and Skoda Rapid models.
Based on the Polo platform, the Ameo will be offered with MirrorLink touchscreen entertainment system, automatic day and night inside rear-view mirror, reverse camera, cruise control, automatic climate control, ABS, EBD, dual front airbags and 15 inch alloy wheels. The compact Sedan will compete with likes of Honda Amaze, Ford Figo Aspire and the Hyundai Xcent.
