We have been constantly updating you about Volkswagen's plans of introducing a new compact sedan in India. Just so you know, the Volkswagen Ameo (tentatively named) is scheduled to have its world premiere at the 2016 Auto Expo in February. And prior to the official unveiling, the new sub 4-meter sedan has been spied as test mule on the Indian roads by our friends at Overdrive.
It is being learnt that Volkswagen Ameo would be based on the same platform as the Vento sedan and Polo hatch. Going by the spy images, it is clear that the sedan boasts of a stubby boot which has really helped the company engineers to keep its length under 4 meter. Apparently, Volkswagen Ameo would share several elements like the headlamps, doors and some body panels with other company cars. Although, it might get differently styled bumpers and a new grille to distinguish itself from Vento and Polo. It would be Volkswagen's new entry-level sedan in the country, while positioned below the Vento.
As the spy images suggest, Volkswagen Ameo would carry forward the interior of Vento and Polo. It would feature dual tone dashboard with silver inserts, and a flat-bottomed multifunction steering wheel. In all likelihood, the Ameo sedan would be powered by the same petrol and diesel engines as the Polo hatchback. The 1.2L petrol motor and 1.3L diesel motor would be at the helm of affairs. It would be up against the likes of Maruti Swift DZire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Zest and Ford Figo Aspire.
