Volkswagen India has launched the Ameo Diesel variant starting at Rs 6.33 lakh for the base while the top of the line, Highline variant has been priced at Rs 9.32 lakh (All Prices, Ex showroom, Delhi) in India. Earlier, it was reported that the launch scheduled for September 27 was postponed. Though, the reason is still unknown. The Volkswagen Ameo diesel is available in three grades – Trendline, Comfortline and the top-ending version, Highline.
The Ameo compact sedan is a sub-4 metre car that will take on the likes of Honda Amaze, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Tata Zest and the Ford Figo Aspire. And with this diesel variant, the company will give a tough competition to these popular automobiles through this car, in turn strengthening company’s sales.
The interior of the of the Ameo diesel will welcome in the same as the petrol variant does. Inside, the car comes loaded with myriads of features like touchscreen MirrorLink system, tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel, height-adjustable driver's seat, electrically foldable ORVMs, cruise control, reverse-parking sensors, reverse-parking camera and rear defogger. While for the safety purpose Volkswagen has equipped the car with dual front airbags and ABS as a standard feature.
Under the skin, the Ameo diesel variant derives its power from the same power unit that serves the Polo and the Vento, i.e. a 1.5-litre four-cylinder TDI oil burner that is good enough to develop a maximum power of 108 bhp with 230 Nm of top torque. The power can be transmitted through a 5-speed manual gearbox, while Volkswagen’s popular 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox is a good option as per needs. Currently, the petrol variant, which on sale in India, is powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder MPI engine that can crank out 74 bhp of power and a peak torque of 110 Nm, and transmits power to the front axle via a 5-speed manual gearbox.
