Volkswagen Motorsports has initiated the registration process for the driver's selection procedure for the 2017 Ameo Cup. The Ameo Cup will be organised next year. This time around the bavarian carmaker’s Ameo compact sedans will compete against each other. Candidates, who will register for the selection process, will have to pass selection round on 17th and 18th of December. The selection process will be organised at the Indi Karting Track, in Pune.
The Volkswagen Ameo Cup will continue with the same format, as the Volkswagen Vento Cup, which was concluded a few days ago. The Ameo cup series gives a stage to the new drivers to showcase and nurture their racing skills. A total of 18 drivers from different parts of the subcontinent had participated in the last Vento cup, which ended in early weeks of October to make way for the Volkswagen Ameo Cup 2017 season.
The new Ameo cup will be hosted as part of the MMSC-FMSCI Indian National Racing Championship. The event is expected to be organised across all three racetracks in the country, which are Madras Motor Race Track, Kari Motor Speedway and the Buddh International Circuit.
According to VW motorsport head Sirish Vissa, the company first introduced Motorsport in India in 2010. Since then, it has seen the landscape of Indian motorsport evolve by leaps and bounds, not just from a talent point of view but also in terms of the ecosystem that supports it.
With registrations open now, the company is waiting to engage with India’s best young aspiring racers and find the hidden gems that will help accelerate the motor sport culture in India to the next level in the coming days.
