Volkswagen T-Cross small SUV has been quite a buzz across the world and now the German brand has confirmed this model for Indian market. This SUV will challenge the Hyundai Creta upon arrival, but don’t expect Volkswagen to launch it here before 2021. The India-spec model will be based on MQB A0 IN architecture.
The Volkswagen T-Cross will be closely similar to the upcoming Skoda SUV that is likely to launch in India sometime in 2020. Volkswagen wants to become the affordable premium car brand in India in coming years and the T-Cross SUV could play key role in that strategy. The SUV looks sharp and appealing with its design and it will come loaded with attractive features. Volkswagen believes it will be able to lure the young urban buyers who contribute a significantly large number in total car sales of the country.
The Volkswagen T-Cross SUV will be available in India with a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine as power source. There won’t be any diesel engine for the car as the 1.5-litre TDI diesel motor will be discontinued in India after the implementation of the BS-VI emission norms. Also, the petrol engine is expected to be built locally in order to keep the pricing of the car lower.
