The news from the Indian subsidary of the German car manufacturing giant, ‘Volkswagen India’ is that they are ready to launch ‘Cross Polo’ brand of vehicles, made in India, into Nepal this year. Volkswagen has already introduced a very strong model ‘Polo GT’ which is capable of reaching a speed of one hundred five BHP and is now planning to introduce still more stronger version ‘Cross Polo’, which is capable of taking the most rugged and difficult terrain. The vehicle would most probably be manufactured in the unit of Volkswagen in ‘Chakan’ near Pune in Maharastra. It will be then exported to Nepal.
It has been officially declared that ‘Cross Polo’ would be introduced in ‘Nepal’ sometime in ‘September’ 2013. Volkswagen have already appointed a dealer, ‘Pooja International’ to handle the sales of the model in that country. The car was seen doing test run in India and though there is no official word regarding the specifications or date on which the model is going to be launched, it is likely that the company would use a slightly more powerful engine like the one they have used in ‘Polo GT’. The specifications for this type of engine are that it runs on petrol and produces one hundred and five BHP and it is turbo charged injection type of engine. The second guess is that maybe the vehicle would have a ‘diesel engine’ which has one point five Litre and 4 ‘cylinders. However, all these are conjectures and no one knows the actual specifications because the company has not disclosed them yet.
The model comes with seventeen inches wheels made of ‘alloy’ which gives this car an impressive height from the ground level. This helps the car to easily go over the rugged terrain of the mountains in Nepal. It is expected to cost Rupees seven lakhs which put it in the same bracket as ‘Renault’s Duster’ or Ford’s upcoming ‘EcoSport’. This means that Volkswagen are likely to face stiff competition from these two companies.
