Volkswagen India celebrates half-decade of excellence at its Pune Plant

Volkswagen India has celebrated the 5th anniversary of its first assembly plant on 31st March 2014 in Chakan, Pune. The company established the plant in 2007 with an investment of over Rs. 3800 crores and has rolled  out 3,67,000 units of several models under different brand names since then. The state-of-the-art manufacturing facility housing the entire automotive manufacturing process from press shop, body shop, paint shop and final assembly line.

However, the Pune plant began full-fledged manufacturing of cars in May 2009 with the ŠKODA Fabia, followed by the Volkswagen Polo in December 2009. The production of the first Made for India Volkswagen model – the Vento, began in August 2010 while that of the ŠKODA Rapid began in October 2011.

With these cars, Volkswagen India ensured that it brought the volume models of the Volkswagen Group to the Indian consumer. VW Group has also been exporting the Vento to South Africa since 2011, expanded its export operations to 32 countries. Interestingly, VW India has also appointed the Mr. Michael Mayer for their Marketing Head position. Mayer is currently handling the marketing planning for the company and will manage the new position from 1st June 2014.
