Volkswagen India delivered a record 148 cars in the state of Kerala on the first day of Chingam. The festive season of Onam has begun, and Chingam marks the Malayalam New year. This is one of the highest deliveries reported from Kerala in a single day. Another great accomplishment was achieved by Volkswagen Kochi, which delivered 40 cars in one day, marking the highest ever bulk delivery done from a single outlet in Kerala on a single day. Volkswagen is currently testing the Ameo diesel, and it is expected to launch around the festive season of Diwali in Novemeber.
On this occasion, Mr. Michael Mayer, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said, “Kerala continues to be an important market for Volkswagen and the custom of celebrating the festive season in a unique way further motivates us to make great effort towards enhancing customer delight. We are happy to be a part of such an auspicious occasion in our customer’s life.” Recently, the German automaker launched the Ameo sub 4-meter sedan in India, albeit in petrol guise only. It was offered in three trims: Trendline, Comfortline and Highline. The Ameo comes with several first-in-segment features such as Static cornering light, Rain sensing wipers, Cruise control, Front center armrest and Anti-pinch power windows – Front & Rear. The Ameo sedan has dual front airbags and ABS as standard safety features across the entire variant line-up.
Under the bonnet, the Ameo has a 1.2L MPI petrol engine which develops 74bhp of top power and 110Nm of peak torque, while paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. The Ameo diesel has been spied as test mule couple of times on the Indian roads. Visually, it is identical to the petrol counterparts, save for the TDI badges at the rear end. The interior and features would also be similar to the petrol siblings. Mechanically, the diesel variants of the sedan would carry an updated 1.5L 4-cylinder TDI engine. It would be offered with the 5-speed manual gearbox as standard, while a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission would be available as optional. Volkswagen Ameo lock horns with the likes of Maruti Swift DZire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Zest and Ford Aspire.
