Both the cars with the new standard fitments are available in all Volkswagen dealerships across the country. Recently launched company’s compact Sedan Ameo was also introduced with the both the dual airbag and Anti-lock braking system as standard features.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Michael Mayer – Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said, “At Volkswagen, we believe that safety is not a luxury but a primary need in a car. We have always been committed towards our customers’ safety and now with these standard fitments in the Polo and Vento, Indian customers will enjoy the Volkswagen ‘Safe Driving Experience’ across all our carlines.”
With the introduction of Dual Airbag and ABS as standard feature on Polo and Vento, Volkswagen has become the second auto manufacturer after Toyota to offer dual front airbags and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) as standard features across the entire product portfolio in the Indian passenger car market. The Government has already made it clear that the new cars launching from 2018 in the country would come with ABS and airbags as mandatory safety features. In fact, the ministry of Road, Transport & Highways has proposed a new car assessment program for India, Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program (BNVSAP), on the lines of Euro NCAP. It is expected to be operational from October 2017 and rating the cars on safety standards by conducting several crash tests.
With the addition of ABS and dual airbags as standard to its entire range, Volkswagen will now enjoy a pioneer positioning towards ‘Safety’ in the Indian market. Volkswagen continues to carry the baton of vehicular safety in the country with its current product lineup.
