The German auto-giant, Volkswagen is set to launch its new Polo-based sedan in the Brazilian market. Called the Virtus, the new sedan is expected to go on sale in the month of January next year. According to the sources, the new sedan has already been confirmed for the first-quarter of 2018.
The Brazilian-spec model is the sedan version of the Polo hatchback with tweaked styling and improved features. It has already been spied, which reveals the styling features of the car. It clearly depicts the design of the new Polo hatchback and it will be the second product from the automaker to be based on the MQB A0 design philosophy.
The VW Virtus features premium and elegant look and is an absolute eye-grabber. According to the spy images, it is offered with a sloping D-pillar and higher boot-lit. It possesses a large black glass to bridge between the roof and tail. The front-profile looks aggressively built with a large bumper and sculpted bonnet. The entry-level model will sport 15-inch steel wheels, while the top-end version will run on 17-inch alloy wheels. The rear profile looks equally good with Audi A4-esque wraparound tail lamps. Inside, the car is expected to offer a premium cabin equipped with advanced features.
The all-new sedan from Volkswagen will offer a wheelbase of 2.6 metres and 500litres of boot space. It will be offered in two engine options - 1.6-litre MSI and 1.0-litre TSI engines. The four-cylinder MSI engine develops a maximum power output of 117 bhp and a peak torque of 161.81 Nm, while the engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, the three cylindrical TSI engine churns out a maximum power of 128 bhp against a peak torque of 200.06 Nm and the power is transmitted to the wheels by a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
The upcoming sedan is most likely to compete with the likes of Chevrolet Cobalt and Honda City. The automaker is planning to soon reveal another compact SUV named, T-Cross, based on the same design platform.
