The Volkswagen Polo GTI facelift is not currently available in India, but recently an undisguised prototype was spotted on our country’s roads and this could indicate the hot hatchback is India-bound. Seen here is a heavily tuned version from ABT Sportsline with a reworked version of the four-cylinder, 1.8-liter TSI turbocharged gasoline engine. It no longer produces the stock 192 bhp and 320 Nm as after the engineers applied their expertise they managed to extract no less than 230 bhp and a maximum torque of 360 Nm.
Although ABT isn’t saying how fast their Polo GTI is, we know for sure it’s substantially faster than the standard model which needs 6.7 seconds to cover the 0-100 kmph sprint before it reaches a top speed of 236 kmph. A 0.2-0.3s decrease in the sprint time is expected, along with a bump in maximum speed to around 245 kmph.
Beside gaining more power, the tuned Volkswagen Polo GTI also has a fresh set of 18-inch wheels from ABT Sportsline teamed up with 215/35 R18 tires. This particular three-door version also has a faux carbon trim on the spoiler mounted at the back on the roof while the new rear skirt set enhances the model’s sporty appearance.
The list of changes doesn’t end here as the punchy five-door hatch also has a two-tone sticker set, a new muffler setup with dual tips along with new suspension springs that have lowered the Polo GTI by 30 mm at the rear axle and 25 mm in the front. For the interior, the tuner has prepared a new set of floor mats and LED door entrance lights that display the ABT logo.
It should be mentioned there’s another power upgrade available, this time for the smaller 1.2 TSI which in India is available exclusively on the Polo GT. The upgraded version will see an increase in output from 105 bhp and 175 Nm to 140 bhp and 220 Nm.
