Volkswagen India, after unveiling the Tiguan SUV and Passat GTE, has now unveiled the Polo GTI at the 2016 Auto Expo. The 3-door high-performance hatchback would develop over 190bhp of raw power - a first of its kind in the Indian market. It is being learnt that the hatch could be launched in India around September 2016 with a sticker price of around Rs. 18 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).
The Polo GTI flaunts LED headlamps with daytime running lights (DRLs), GTI honeycomb grille and sporty bumper at the front. It rides on large alloy wheels, while twin exhaust pipes and a rear diffuser complete the rear end. Inside the cabin, there is the GTI 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel with contrast red stitching. The interior upholstery is finished in tartan. Volkswagen Polo GT is designed to suit the requirements of automotive enthusiasts, said the company in a statement. It is also being speculated that the German automaker might also launch the 5-door version of the Polo GTI at a later stage.
Under the hood, the Volkswagen Polo GTI has a 1.8L turbocharged TSI engine which generates 190bhp of top power and 250Nm of peak torque. It would be linked to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The hatch would touch the 100kmph mark from standstill in a mere 6.7 seconds with a top speed of 250kmph. Volkswagen claims that Polo GTI tickles all the boxes of exhilarating performance, power and comfort and is guaranteed to make heads turn with its striking redesign with instant recognition. The Polo GTI would be launched under Volkswagen India's Think Ahead, Think New philosophy.
