- Volkswagen Polo Plus is based on the sixth-gen Polo, launched in 2017
- The changes are mostly cosmetic in the new Polo Plus
- New Polo Plus misses out on some of the features available on the international model
SAIC Volkswagen - the alliance between Volkswagen Group and SAIC Motor has introduced an all-new Polo Plus at the ongoing Shanghai Auto Show. The new Polo Plus is exclusive to the Chinese market and it won't see an India launch anytime soon. Volkswagen Polo Plus is based on the sixth-gen Polo which was launched back in 2017. The changes are mostly cosmetic and it also misses out on some of the features that are seen on the higher-spec international model (17-inch alloy wheels and LED DRLs).
The cosmetic changes include dual-tone interiors, 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels and LED tail lamps. The sportiness is further carried in the interiors with yellow highlights on the dashboard, door panels and centre infotainment console. It features a sunroof, steering mounted controls, touchscreen infotainment system and safety kit like ABS with EBD, rear parking camera and airbags for driver and passengers are standard.
The Volkswagen Polo Plus is offered with a 1.5-litre petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed automatic. This is the same engine that already powers the present model available in the Chinese market. Volkswagen also showcased its SMV concept and Roomz concept at the Shanghai Auto Show.
For the update, under Volkswagen's India 2.0 strategy led by Skoda, the Volkswagen Group will be investing around Rs. 8,000 crores to develop new engines and platforms. These will be manufactured in India and Volkswagen might export them in the International markets.
