Volkswagen India is all set to launch the Tiguan SUV later this month in the country. The dealer traning for the new SUV is going in full swing at the company authorized dealerships with several units being already dispatched. Being based on the Volkswagen Group's modular MQB architecture, it would be sold via CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route due to local assembly at the company's Aurangabad production facility. Volkswagen Tiguan made its first public appearance in the Indian market at the grand stage of 2016 Auto Expo in February.
Volkswagen Tiguan SUV would be offered in two grades: Comfortline and Highline. The new SUV is nearly 50 kgs lighter than the previous-generation model due to the use of MQB lightweight platform. The cabin would be finished in an all-black theme with a 3-spoke steering wheel. As for features, it is likely to come with LED headlights, virtual release pedal, automatic climate control, faux leather upholstery and 18-inch wheels (17-inch for Comfortline). There would also be 3-way rear split seats, foldable airline-style tables for rear occupants with cup holders, manual sliding rear seats, panoramic sunroof, and front/rear parking sensors with rear camera. In addition, there is a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an 8-speaker audio system.
As for the safety of the occupants, the Tiguan would come loaded with a plethora of exquisite features like six airbags, ABS with ‘CHOKE’ effect, EBD, TCS, ESP, keyless entry, keyless start/stop. The Tiguan would debut the RE-ACTIVE HOOD feature in the Indian market. This segment-first feature opens opens the hood by 22 mm if there is a pedestrian impact. Under the hood, the Tiguan would have a 2.0L 4-cylinder TDI diesel engine with maximum power output of 147bhp. It would be linked to a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. It is expected to be priced in a range of Rs. 25-27 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom), while it takes on the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavor, Chevrolet Trailblazer and yet-to-be-launched Skoda Kodiaq.
