Volkswagen, the German automaker, is currently working on its next-gen Jetta and is expected to unveil the sedan in January 2018. The North America CEO of the company has officially confirmed that the new Jetta will be showcased for the first time in the upcoming North American International Auto Show, which will commence in Detroit in January 2018.

The new generation Jetta is expected to be built on the MQB platform, rather than the previous PQ35 platform. The new underpinning of the model is expected to produce a lighter and stiffer version than the predecessor. This similar platform has already been used for the production of VW Group models like Passat, Tiguan and Golf.

The spy images of the new Volkswagen car reveal some of the features, which indicates the designing changes it has received. As per the leaked images, the next-gen Jetta comes with the manufacturer’s latest design concept that was used in the Arteon four-door coupe. At the front end, the car looks to be aggressive with a wider front-grille, which merges with the headlights and the bonnet comes with multi-creases to look attractive. The side-profile is way impressive with a running crease across its length, merging into the tail-lamps. At the end, the car is offered with a dual-tone rear bumper. Being built on the MQB platform, the car has a spacious cabin, which is a result of the longer wheelbase.

The seventh generation of Volkswagen Jetta is expected to share engine mechanism from the Tiguan SUV. This means, it will be getting a new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol motor, a 2.0-litre petrol and a diesel engine variants as well. However, the model is not prepared for the right-hand drive countries, which ensures that India is not likely to get the new sedan.

The previous gen Jetta featured a 1.4-litre petrol engine and 2.0-litre diesel engine. Since its launch in 2011, it has sold 14,917 units till date. However, it sold just 398 units in the last one year. The starting price of Volkswagen Jetta is Rs. 16.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
