Volkswagen India is gearing up to unveil its compact sedan Ameo tomorrow in the country. The brand recently announced the name of its first and much-awaited compact sedan. After making its world premiere tomorrow, Volkswagen Ameo would also make an appearance at the Auto Expo 2016, while the production would commence from mid 2016 at its Chakan production facility in Pune.
As we mentioned earlier, Volkswagen Ameo has been developed at the company’s Chakan facility. As the cars come with highly localized compared to any other Volkswagen car sold in the country. Basically, Volkswagen Ameo is a shorter wheelbase Polo with added boot. And, the design cues have been borrowed from the Volkswagen Polo and Vento, where the front end is similar to polo and rear end to the Vento.
Under the hood, the sub 4-meter sedan would be introduced in both petrol and diesel variants. The petrol variants are expected to be powered by the 1.2L MPI and TSI motors. The range-topping variant is expected to carry the TSI petrol engine and would be offered with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. The diesel variants would get their power from a Polo-sourced 1.5L motor. It will compete with the likes of Maruti Swift DZire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Zest and Ford Figo Aspire.
