Volkswagen had showcased the concept of I.D. Buzz electric Microbus earlier this year and promised to make this combination of the old school vehicle and latest technology work the best among a generation that is going ga-ga over the all-electric cars designed by the likes of Tesla and Chevrolet.
With this promise, the Volkswagen Group has announced that it will be bringing this refreshed classy vehicle into the real world by 2022. The CEO of Volkswagen, Dr Herbert Diess has said that ever since the concept was first displayed, the company has been flooded emails and letters from the company’s followers and excited customers, requesting the company to go ahead and build the car. Hence, seeing this tremendous anticipation and excitement, the company will do exactly what the fans are expecting.
The production version of the Volkswagen Buzz will boast on an all wheel drive with 369 bhp on each of the axle for additional handling stability. The battery used for the power plant will have a range of 300 miles on a single charge and will also be charged up to 80 per cent in just 30 minutes using the VW’s quick charging system.
Interestingly, the Volkswagen Buzz will feature a semi-autonomous technology (Level 3). Despite the technology being capable of handling some of the driver’s duty, a presence of one will be required. The company has even planned to build a completely autonomous system by 2025, which would be called I.D. Pilot.
The concepts of all-electric vehicles are plenty all around the world, but nothing seems to be more fascinating than the Volkswagen Buzz. The company will also be making a cargo specialised version of the Microbus that would be dedicated to the commercial fleet and would be used as a commercial fleet.
