It was less than two weeks ago when we shared a batch of images with a scale model of the upcoming Volvo S90 and now it’s back in another set which as you can see is of higher quality. The model will be officially revealed in the weeks to come and will replace the S80, so it will take the shape of a mid-size sedan that we expect will be slightly bigger than its predecessor.
The scale model depicted here is painted in Liquid Blue which will obviously be one of the hues offered by Volvo for their new model set to ride on the same SPA platform that has already underpinned the second generation XC90 and will serve as foundation for all of the company’s mid to large models programmed to hit the market in the years to come.
Shortly after the S90’s market launch, Volvo will also introduce a more practical V90 wagon variant which was spotted as a scale model earlier this week. Both models will be powered exclusively by four-cylinder Drive E engines, with the most powerful setup being a hybrid T8 variant consisting of a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline unit working together with an electric motor to generate a combined output of 394 bhp, as seen in the aforementioned XC90 SUV.
Although we don’t get to check out the interior cabin in this set, it’s a known fact the S90 and its V90 wagon counterpart will have just about the same configuration as the XC90, with the exception of the air vents that will have a different shape.
Expect the S90 to go on sale in China before the end of the year while next year it will hit international markets when the V90 will also be out. The sedan is expected to be offered in China while details concerning the V90’s availability are not available at this point.
