Volvo India has launched the V40 hatchback in the country at a sticker price of Rs. 24.75 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi). It has been offered in two variants in India - Kinetic and R-Design. The Volvo V40 is quite similar to its Cross Country avatar in exterior appearance, save for a couple of changes. The V40, like all the Volvo cars, get a bunch of safety features as standard.
Talking about the exterior appearance, Volvo V40 hatchback resembles a lot to the V40 Cross Country, save for a couple of sporty elements such as full body plastic cladding, restyled front bumper and extended ground clearance. The interior cabin boasts of several top-notch comfort features such as automatic climate control, powered front seats with memory, reverse camera, and parking sensors. It also comes with Volvo's pedestrian airbag & city safety feature that permits the car to auto-brake and avoid a crash under speed of 50kmph. The V40 comes with a 5-star Euro NCAP rating with 8-airbags as standard. Just so you know, it is now the most affordable Volvo car in India.
Coming to the R-Design variant of the V40 hatchback, it gets several visual changes as compared to the base Kinetic variant. Volvo V40 R-Design gets a new blacked-out front grille and airdams. Also, there are new alloy wheels and panoramic glass roof as standard feature in V40 R-Design. The company would also offer the R-Design variant in a new exlusive paint shade. Mechanically, the car is launched in diesel guise only; petrol variants won't be launched as of now.
The V40 hatch gets the same 2.0L turbocharged D3 diesel engine which is available with the V40 Cross Country. It generates a maximum power of 147.5bhp and peak torque of 350Nm. Despite ebing sold as CBU vehicle, Volvo India has priced the V40 quite aggressively and it is ready to give sleepless nights to the likes of Mercedes-Benz A-Class and BMW 1-Series.
