Volvo launches its smallest SUV, XC40 in India at an introductory price of Rs 39.9 lakh (Ex showroom, India). The car made its global debut at the 2018 LA Auto show. To be slotted under the XC60, the XC40 SUV is the first model to be built on Volvo’s new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform. The car will be offered in one variant only, the ‘R-Design’. The new Volvo XC40 will pounce with the likes of the Mercedes GLA, BMW X1 and Audi Q3.
Speaking of the exterior, the XC40 SUV gets the signature sunken grille and company’s famous Thor's Hammer headlamps with daylight running lights (DRLs). The clean creases flow all the way from the headlamps to A-Pillar. The car will ride on 18 inch diamond cut alloys, offered as standard, whereas the R-Design badging adds a touch of exception for its buyers. At the rear, the car would flaunt vertical boomerang-shaped LED taillamps with new C-shaped indicator lights. Dimensionally, it measures 4425mm in length, 1910mm in width, and stands 1659mm tall with a wheelbase of 2703mm.
The interior of the Volvo XC40 will welcome you with a black upholstery and adding a contrast to the cabin, it gets lava carpeting and door inserts. The car will come equipped with a 9 inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless mobile phone charging, 12.3 inch virtual instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, two-zone climate control system and heated seats. For the safety, it comes with a host of radar-based safety features such as Volvo’s City Safety with steering assist, blind spot assist, lane keeping assist, autonomous braking, and adaptive cruise control and for the passive 7 airbags.
Under the bonnet, the new Volvo XC40 will come packed with a 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces 187bhp of maximum power and 400Nm of top torque. The engine will come mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission along with Haldex all-wheel drive system and five different drive modes – Eco, Comfort, Dynamic, Off-road and Individual.
