Volvo Cars has released the images of R-design sporty version of the recently launched second generation XC90 SUV. Mechanically, it is the same Volvo XC90 SUV, but there are substantial cosmetic upgrades to make it more sportier and stylish. It would be available by October in the European markets while in the Indian sub-continent, it would make its way by the mid of 2015, most probably.
The R-design version flaunts revised front and rear bumpers and 20-inch alloy wheels with subtle change made to the wheel arches. In addition, it has front spoiler, silk metal window surround, integrated dual exhausts, integrated silver roof rails and silver matt mirror covers. This sporty and fully aerodynamic body kit provides the XC90 R-Design a belligerent appearance. Inside the cabin, it gets gearshift paddles, plus the Contour sports seats and perforated leather steering wheel and gearshift knob are accompanied by special R-Design details, such as sports seats, pedals, floor mats and illuminated tread plates. The driver also gets an exclusive R-Design leather key remote control. The tablet-like touchscreen in the centre and a 12.3-inch fully graphical driver display are of course included in the R-Design.
Mechanically, it sports the same engine options in both petrol and diesel guise as the standard XC90. Alain Visser, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Customer Service, Volvo Car Group, said, “R-Design is created for people with a passion for things that add spice to life,” He further added, "“It appeals to customers that love active driving and a personal, expressive design. Every single R-Design detail is designed to contribute to the individualistic and refined expression these customers desire. In principle, we have replaced the previous top level with the Inscription and R-Design versions. Both of them feature an elevated content, carefully chosen to emphasise each of their distinctive individual personalities,”
