Swedish car manufacturer, Volvo is geared up to launch the XC90 T8 Plugin Hybrid on September 14th 2016. With the launch of the full sized SUV from the luxury carmaker, things are about to change, as this SUV can also be run on pure electric power. As of now, the XC90 is available in the diesel version, where this engine is specifically for the Indian car market.
Under the skin, the Full sized SUV XC90 will draw its power from a petrol T8 Twin-engine paired with an electric motor. The combined system - a 2.0-litre petrol unit and the electric motor is capable to crank out a maximum power of 400PS and a peak torque of 640Nm. The engine comes mated with an 8-speed Aisin gearbox, same as seen on the diesel XC90 available in India. The hybrid version of the Volvo XC90 will be introduced only in the Excellence trim. In India, the SUV comes powered by a 2.0-litre, turbocharged diesel unit that produces 228PS of maximum power with 470Nm of peak torque.
The XC90 plug-in hybrid comes with six driving modes - AWD, Save, Off-road, Pure, Hybrid and Power. The SUV’s fuel system uses either the petrol engine or the electric motor or both depending upon the situation. While the car being in the Save mode, adapts to charge and save battery for future use. The model will come loaded with Nappa leather, electrically adjusting seats and memory functions and Bower and Wilkins music system.
The Volvo XC90 T8 will be country's first plug-in hybrid SUV offering by the brand and is expected to cost around Rs 1 crore.
