As if the existing Beetle was not classic enough, Volkswagen has come up with a more classic version for it called VW Beetle Classic, launched for $20,195. Although, the classic version will be a limited edition model only, Volkswagen has priced the classic somewhere around $100 less than the existing model hoping to turn around the declining sales.
The classic Beetle comes with the same engine as the standard Beetle, having a VW's 1.8-liter turbo charged four-cylinder with 170HP @ 6200 rpm of power and 184Nm @ 1500 rpm of torque amted with a six-speed automatic. To add some retro flair, it includes, new vintage-look 17-inch wheels with simulated dog dish polished hubcaps over black spokes and a rear spoiler. Volkswagen is now offering three colors for the model, Pure White, Black Uni, and Reflex Silver.
The interior comes with few more classic touches, but mostly includes modern gadgets like a standard navigation system, satellite radio and multifunction steering wheel. However, the seats are finished in a two-tone design combining light brown leather on the sides and checked cloth centers, plus lumbar support for the driver's side. The shift knob and the hand-brake also get wrapped in leather.
In future, the VW is also coming up with a convertible version of the Classic Beetle, priced at $25995. Volkwagen offers the Beetle in India at around Rs 22 lakh, although we are not sure if they will offer the classic version in India, since they are offering it globally in a very limited numbers only. But this car surely stands true to its name, and does look good in the classic version.
