What all Silverstone has witnessed since 1977

Snapshot: After the first Grand Prix held at the circuit 37 years ago, Silverstone has helped motorcycle racing have some memorable moments

The year was 1977 when a Grand Prix was held at Silverstone for the first time. Before that, the race used to take place at the famous Isle of Man TT circuit, where it still continues to happen but not as a part of the MotoGP season. Isle of Man TT circuit was removed from the MotoGP calendar due to safety issues. Racing at Silverstone was moved to Donington Park in 1987 and kept happening there till 2009 before it moved back to Silverstone. Kenny Roberts set the fastest lap time in 1986 on his Yamaha at the original track which was 4.71kms long. The new circuit that was 5.9kms long was used for the first time when premier class racing resumed at Silverstone in 2010. Jorge Lorenzo has won maximum MotoGP races here after premier class racing  was being called MotoGP 2002 onwards in 2010, 2012 and 2013. Since its inception in 1977, only one British rider has been able to start the race from pole at Silverstone. It happened in the first year when it started in 1977 and Barry Sheene started the 500cc race took pole.
