Yamaha could revive the DT heritage with the launch of DT400

The DT series from Yamaha ruled the past age of motorcycling during the times from 1968 to 1995. Though the market was down at that time but still there were two-wheelers manufacturers like Husqvarna and Bultaco who used to manufacture off-road motorcycles and built base for the future off-road motorcycling industry.

Sometime back, Ducati revived the Scrambler brand by launching the new Scrambler 800 and Scrambler Sixty2. It could also be said that Yamaha is walking in the same direction as the company is looking forward to revive its DT series which was once famous for its enduro performance. The Japanese firm recently launched their XSR900 and at the launch, Yamaha’s Product Manager, Shun Miyazawa said, now we have players in the 700, 900 segment, it is time to do something similar with smaller capacity. It could be DT. After having found SR400, a similar capacity could be interesting.”

When questioned about similarities from other brands, Shun Miyazawa laughed off and added “Honestly we don’t care - there’s always somebody who wants to say somebody is copying somebody. If we do it, then our bikes will be probably 150 per cent more fun compared to that nice Bolognese Scrambler.”

We speculate the bike to carry the same engine as the current SR400, the engine is a single-cylinder air-cooled unit that produces 23bhp of maximum power but also it should be tuned to churn out a higher power output. The DT400 will lock horns with the Ducati Scrambler Sixty2 that produces 44bhp.
