Yamaha revealed its upcoming electric scooter named as EC-05 in Taiwan recently. The electric scooter has been developed in partnership with the Taiwanese brand - Gogoro. The Yamaha EC-05 is designed by Yamaha Japan, while the powertrain is manufactured by Gogoro. One of the major highlights is that electric scooter is equipped with battery swapping technology. The EC-05 electric scooter will be available in the Taiwanese market by August 2019.
For the update, Gogoro is a well-known two-wheeler manufacturer of Taiwan that offers a number of electric scooters. The brand also has a strategically installed charging network in the country. The owners of Yamaha's electric scooter EC-05 can either charge their vehicles at these stations or swap their batteries with a rented one. The Japanese giant hasn't shared any further information on the motor and the batteries but the video has revealed some of the features of the Yamaha EC-05.
The EC-05 will have an all-digital instrument cluster, a matte-blue paint job, alloy wheels, disc brakes and LED lightings. Being a modern urban electric scooter, the EC-05 is expected to be equipped with a number of modern-day technology. The video revealed that the EC-05 has a proximity sensor which gets activated through the electric scooter's key-fob. The EC-05 will target the young executives who commute in the city on a daily basis. The front facade on the electric scooter looks fresh and futuristic.
Yamaha has not announced any plans to launch electric vehicles in the Indian market as of now. Meanwhile, a number of homegrown electric vehicle manufacturers are on a spree of launching new products in the country. 22Kymco recently launched its electric scooter iFlow which also features battery swapping technology. While the battery swapping technology will help the brands to increase the distance range of their products, a proper charging infrastructure also needs to be developed to make EVs more reliable and accessible.
