After making its official debut last year, the Yamaha MT-03 has been launched in Europe at a price of EUR 4,995 in Germany which is equivalent to Rs 3.78 lakh. Being a naked version of the YZF-R3, the bike is supposed to be priced below its faired sibling and hence it costs Rs 37,850 less than the latter. The MT-03 is nothing but a stripped down YZF-R3, all the components like the engine, chassis, suspensions, brakes and other body panels as well are same as seen on the YZF-R3.
Being a street naked it gets a single bent handle bar unit instead of the clip-ons like the one on the R3. Its 321cc parallel-twin water-cooled engine is known to deliver 42.5bhp of maximum power and 29.6Nm of peak torque. Being almost 4 kg lighter than its faired sibling it should be quicker to accelerate by fractions.
There are no clear signs that Yamaha Motor Indian will launch the same in the Indian market anytime soon. But when launched it should be price anywhere near the Rs 3 Lakh mark and hence will be a straight competitor to the Benelli TNT 300, Kawasaki Z250 and the KTM 390 Duke. The MT-03 carries its styling cues from the bigger motorcycles in the MT range such as MT-07 and MT-09. The company has already launched the MT-09 in the market and it is priced near Rs 10.3 Lakh (Ex-Showroom, Delhi).
