We just returned from an event that was the talk of the town from last few days. At the press conference held in New Delhi, Yamaha unveiled its fuel-injected variants of FZ and FZ-S. Even though the changes are nothing too drastic, but enough to make it stand apart from the present generation.
Both the bikes have been induced with the new DNA Yamaha has been trying to specialise lately. Yamaha calls it the Blue Core technology and it tries to find the perfect balance between performance and fuel-efficiency. It also includes a lighter motorcycle with 14% better fuel-efficiency, new suspension setting at the front and rear, new set of tyres for improved handling, an 'ECO indicator' for an eco-friendly ride.
The engine's capacity and power have been reduced a little. The new 149cc engine produced 13.1bhp of power which is 1bhp lesser than the previous variant. The torque also has been reduced and now is 12.8Nm. Yamaha also claimed that the new technology is more than empowered to battle the BSIV emission norms. The new FZ is 3kgs lighters than before which makes it the lightest motorcycle in the 150cc category.
Yamaha's brand ambassador John Abraham rode the bike to the stage and also answered some of the questions related to the motorcycle. Yamaha has been very aggressive in its approach to grab the Indian market and to make itself ready to face the challenge, the Japanese manufacturer is setting up a plant in Chennai which should start performing from November 2014 and will help Yamaha reach an annual target of 1.8 million units.
Speaking on the occasion Mr Masaki Asano, Managing Director, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd, said, “The FZ series has been a stellar performer ever since its launch in 2008. With the introduction of the new FZ and FZ-S armed with the next generation ‘Blue Core’ engine concept the new models are bound to offer a power-packed performance with improved fuel efficiency. ‘Blue Core’ is a development ideal for new-generation engines that take riding enjoyment, fuel efficiency and environmental performance to levels that have never been reached before. Moreover, the sporty look and aggressive styling of the New FZ models will surely appeal to today’s assertive generation."
The FZ FI v2.0 is priced at Rs 76,250 and the FZ-S FI v2.0 has been priced at Rs 78,250 (ex-showroom Delhi).
