Yamaha has announced the launch on Dec 19 in India.
Has not revealed what the product will be.
Possible that it will be the Yamaha XSR 155.
Another possibility is the BS Vl Fascino.
India Yamaha Motor has announced that there will be a new Yamaha product launched on December 19. While no details have been released about what the new product will be, speculation has been rampant that it will be the XSR 155, a retro-themed model that runs the same hardware as the Yamaha YZF-R15 V3 and MT-15.
The XSR 155 is a very recent product from the Japanese manufacturer and was launched in Thailand first. It bases itself on the same chassis and driveline as the YZF- R15 sportbike and MT-15 street bike but approaches the segment differently.
It has a retro look to it that is extremely charming. It is also priced lower than both the other products it is based on, which is another big draw.
The XSR 155 uses the same perimeter delta box frame as its siblings and the same liquid-cooled engine with variable valve timing that generates 19 bhp. Its six-speed gearbox is equipped with an assist and slipper clutch. In case put on sale, the XSR 155 will retail at around the Rs 1.4 lakh mark and offer KTM 125 Duke customers a less aggressive alternative at a similar price.
However, the XSR 155 will add a couple of thousand units a month at best to Yamaha’s Indian sales figures. A revamped Fascino will help bump up the sales figures by a significant margin with a much lower investment.
A BS Vl Fascino is due, and the reception that the BS Vl Honda Activa 5G has received is no doubt encouraging other scooter manufacturers to make the leap as soon as possible. If it turns out to be the Fascino, expect a fuel injection system to make an appearance, a minor change in the power and torque output, and a few added features to it for an increased sticker price.
