The two-wheeler manufacturer recently revealed the upcoming naked roadster through its YouTube channel. Details deeming styling and other bits such as LED headlight, sculpted fuel tank, MRF tyres and LED tail-lamps have been divulged through the teaser video. As per sources in the know, the motorcycle has already reached some dealerships for training purpose.
Talking of the suspension set-up, the down front forks and aluminium swingarm will be dropped for the conventional telescopic forks and a box-type swingarm with linkage-type rear mono-shock.
This would help the bikemaker to price the motorcycle competitively. Some of the bits like alloy wheels design will be borrowed from Yamaha R15 V3.0. In visual terms, the India-spec model bears strong resemblance to the international model. That said, it features bug-eye shaped Led projector headlight, robust fuel-tank with radiator guards, single seat, digital instrument console and tail reminiscent of MT-09.
It is built on the same Deltabox frame which is also used in the R15 V3.0. Coming to the mechanicals, the bike derives power from a 155cc, SOHC, liquid-cooled, 4-valve, FI engine equipped with VVA (variable valve actuation) technology. It puts out maximum power of 19.1 bhp against 14.7 Nm torque. Transmission duties are carried over by a six-speed gearbox that comes with assist-clip clutch. As for braking power, it comes from disc units at both ends. In addition, it gets benefitted by a dual-channel ABS system. Set to be one of the most powerful 150cc bikes in the country, the Yamaha MT-15 will not have a direct rival in its segment, however the bike will field against other popular models including Pulsar NS200, TVS Apache and Hero Xtreme.
