It’s been almost 3 weeks since Yamaha launched their most awaited YZF-R3 in India and Yamaha is looking forward to launch the naked version of the same in coming future. It is now confirmed now that Yamaha will be coming up with MT-03 (the stripped down version of YZF-R3). Though Indian market is obsessed with the faired motorcycles, but there are examples that even premium naked motorcycles like Duke 390 has done tremendously well in Indian market.

Both YZF-R3 and MT-03 are based on the same engine platform sharing the same 321cc, 4-stroke liquid-cooled DOHC parallel-Twin engine. This unit churns out 41.6bhp of maximum power and 30Nm of peak torque. While every other technicalities remain absolutely the same. Talking about the looks, MT-03 is basically a R3 but without the faring and with a single headlamp. MT-03 will be lighter in weight and hence quicker and cheaper. We expect MT-03 to be priced atleast 30,000 less than its full faired sibling. Currently YZF-R3 is being sold at INR 3,25,000 (ex-showroom) and being a naked version of the same it will be priced at around INR 2,90,000. When launched it will compete directly with TNT 300, KTM 390 Duke and Kawasaki Z250.
