The rumormills have always been abuzz regarding the Yamaha R25; claiming it to be a 300 cc bike when it hits the Indian and European shores. It might arrive in a single-cylinder avatar or with a twin. The 300cc variant might see the daylight in India, thereby competing against the Kawasaki Ninja 300 and upcoming Honda CBR300R. Yamaha has already acquired the name 'YZF-R3' and a bike with this name is on cards sooner or later across the globe.
Reportedly, Indonesian bloggers have always maintained the belief that they would be served with the 250cc bike due to heavy taxes being imposed, while the rest of the world being provided with the 300cc; leaving apart Japan where 250cc has more significance and dominance over the 300cc. Yet again, speculations are rife that the displacement would be 320cc of the Europe-bound bike which is slated to make a suprise launch this year itself. Although, Yamaha with the 250cc twin-cylinder engine generates 36PS of power and 22Nm of peak torque.
The bike weighs 166kgs which is about 6kgs lighter than that of existing Kawasaki Ninja 300 and 2kgs lighter than the yet-to-be-launched Honda CBR300R. With the same chasis, all these bikes, however, differ in the suspension system.
Lastly, pricing holds the key for the Japanese automaker Yamaha as Ninja is already holding the fortress with a price of Rs. 4 Lakhs due to its proximity with Bajaj. Only the near future would tell what happens, till then, keep visiting this space for more updates on the same.
