It seems that the European market has suddenly opened its arms to the 125 cc motorcycles. The hugely successful KTM Duke 125 had been enjoying the monopoly from sometime and Yamaha has decided to challenge it with its latest naked offering to the segment.
The MT 125 has the genes of best of both the worlds. The naked streetfighter look of the MT series and the jaw dropping performance and the engine of YZF R125. And we must say, it looks like nothing we have ever seen. The engine is a 124.7 cc, liquid cooled, SOHC unit that delivers a max output of 15 bhp at 9,000 rpm, and the torque is 12.4 Nm at 8,000 rpm. The bike stops with help of a 292 mm disc at the front and a 230 mm at the rear. The potholes are taken care of with help of upside down forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear.
The tyre at the front is a 100/80 17 at the front and a 130/70 17 at the rear. Needless to say, both are tubeless. Bike weighs just 138 kgs which will make it very nimble around the corners.
The chances of seeing the Yamaha MT 125 on Indian roads anytime soon are almost zero, as Indian market is still not open to the idea of an expensive 125 cc motorcycle.
