ZF Friedrichshafen AG investing Rs.150 crores on new Pune facility

German auto components manufacturer, ZF Friedrichshafen AG, is setting up an assembly plant in Pune, India. The new facility is spread over 21 acres land area, which would become operational next year. The company is investing a total of Rs. 150 crores to build its local base in India where 350 new jobs will be created for assembling of commercial and passenger vehicle drivetrains.

ZF Friedrichshafen AG is present in India since last 30 years and considering the growing demands in the market, the company has taken this major step. The company provides gearbox, power steering units and several other major components to premium car manufacturers like Land Rover, Audi and their likes. But now company has also reached out to develop the mechanical parts for mass-market products. The most recent example of it is the Tata Nano Twist whose power steering unit is developed by ZF Friedrichshafen AG.

The ZF's Research and Development center will also be located inside the new Pune facility to optimize the implication of local-for-local development strategy. The company is focusing on designing the components as per the demands of the Indian market.
