Tata Motors, the home-grown automaker, has decided to rename the yet-to-be-launched Zica hatchback. The decision was made after the outrage caused by the "Zika" virus across several countries. The company has also announced that the new hatch would make its first public appearance at the 2016 Auto Expo, carrying the ‘Zica’ label for the duration of the event.
Tata Motors further said that the new name will be announced after a few weeks, once the Auto Expo is concluded. The hatch would be launched after the necessary consumer/ branding and regulatory aspects are addressed. Just so you know, the all-new Zica hatch is backed by Tata Motors’ “Made of Great” campaign, with the motto, “What drives us from within is what makes us great”. The campaign stars Lionel Messi - Argentinian football team captain and ace Barcelona striker - who was recently appointed the global brand ambassador of the company.
It is expected that bookings for the hatch would commence after the Auto Expo, while it could go on sale from April 2016. Tata Zica would be positioned below the Bolt hatch, while challenging the likes of Maruti Celerio and Hyundai Grand i10. It would be presented in both petrol and diesel fuel trims with the company's all-new 1.2L, 3-cylinder Revotron petrol engine and a 1.05L, 3-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine, respectively. Both the engines would be coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission, while an AMT transmission is also learnt to be in offing in near future. For those asking, Tata Motors would hold the world premiere of the Zica sedan (Kite sedan) at the 2016 Auto Expo, alongside the Hexa premium crossover and Nexon compact SUV.
