Snapshot: Indian scooter market is on boom, Activa crossed Hero Splendor in terms of sales and TVS Motors recorded good 27% of growth in the last fiscal year

TVS Motors recorded good 27% of growth in the last fiscal year. The overall two-wheeler sales recorded by the company including export has grown from  19.93 lakh units in 2013-2014 to 24.09 lakh units in the year 2014-15. The motorcycle sales figures for the company increased from 7.86 lakh units in the year ended March 2014 to 9.51 lakh units in the year ended March 2015. While the sales figures for scooters rose from 4.74 lakh to  7.00 lakh units year on year ended March 2015.

Scooter market in India have seen a tremendous growth in last few years and recently Honda’s Activa the 125cc scooter once again defeated Hero’s Splendor in terms of sales numbers. Domestic sales of Activa recorded a sales figure of total of 2,07,270 units in the month of March 2015  which is more than Hero’s Splendor. The number might not be enough for some but the fact that Activa has crossed over a motorcycle which has been a best seller for ages in the country is a big deal. This news shows how the scooter market is evolving, though motorcycles are still in big demand in the rural areas but everywhere else gearless scooter are taking over the motorcycles.

Hero has been the number one manufacturer in terms of sales which is then followed by Honda and then Bajaj Auto. Due to the fact that Bajaj Auto’s withdrawal from scooter segment the company has lost big number of sales figures within last two years. Though Bajaj Auto has launched some of very Interesting bikes in the market from which Bajaj expects to regain lost grounds in the market very soon. Bajaj has lunched 3 motorcycle in the past month and it is expected few more bike are there waiting to be unleashed by Bajaj Auto.
