Ducati in partnership with Dianese came up with Multistrada D-Air model in 2014. It is a fully wire-less system that inflates airbag vests and jackets (for rider and passenger) in as little as 45 milliseconds whenever the D-Air’s sensors determine that an impact is imminent. The airbag equipped Ducati Multistrada D-Air adventure sports bike was first launched a year back and the new D-Air Multistrada model would be available by the end of July for the International market.
Multistrada D-Air model has been presented with a prestigious innovation award for its technical innovation; this award is presented in the memory the man who founded the famous German Car manufacturer. Vienna’s University of Technology presents this award every two years to the latest technical innovativations.
Dainese chief executive officer Cristiano Silei stated: “The Ferdinand Porsche Award that Dainese received today is recognition of the commitment that our company has always shown in relation to safety.”
Proffesor Bernhard Geringer from the university’s Institute for Vehicle Engines and Automotive Technology presented this award. Previously this award has been given to the team who first used Lithium-Ion battery in a car, the engineers who used LED’s in car headlights and for various other innovations.
The award includes a sum of €50,000 (£35,700) prize which is shared between Dainese's Luigi Ronco and Ducati's Federico Sabbioni.
