There is little doubt that compact crossovers are big sellers in the market right now. So why should Fiat be left behind and they introduced the Avventura. This is Fiat India’s weapon to take on the likes of the Ford EcoSport and to a lesser extent Toyota’s Etios Cross and VW Cross Polo.
The Avventura looks exactly like the Punto Evo with lots of body cladding and jacked up suspension. This gives the Avventura plenty of street cred. The swept-back headlamps, power bulge on the bonnet looks better on the Avventura. The side profile also looks similar to Punto Evo. The spare wheel has been moved to the tail gate to add muscle to the look. The roof rails, which are made of aluminium instead of usual plastic, are also pleasing to the eyes. Avventura also get the LED tail lights, which are missing in VW Cross Polo and Toyota Etios Cross. The 16-inch alloys fit well in the flared wheel arches. Fiat has given Avventura a good 205mm ground clearance (same as the Renault Duster).
Talking about the interior Fiat Avventura has the same dashboard as the Punto Evo with gauge which include compass and inclinometer. The dash get dual-tone finish. The car gets climate control, electric windows, a rear AC vent and an audio system that supports CD, MP3 and Aux-in and Bluetooth only for calling and no audio streaming. The seats of Avventura are a mix of faux leather and fabric. They are comfortable and the build quality is good. The boot space is decent enough by hatchback standards. The door may look stylish but if there is something behind it, it's difficult to open.
Engine, performance and gearbox
The Fiat Avventura comes with two engine options diesel and petrol. The petrol is the 1.4-litre and the diesel is the 1.3-litre MultiJet. The diesel engine produces maximum power of 91.7bhp, while the petrol delivers 88.8bhp of power. It is better to stick to diesel as petrol engine runs out of breath quickly. The diesel solid mid-range and refinement along with the fuel efficient nature makes it a better bet. The car accelerates from 0 to 100kmph in just 10.9 seconds and has a maximum speed of 178kmph. The engine is mated to five-speed manual gearbox. The gearbox is notchy, which lets down the driving experience both in petrol and diesel.
Ride and handling
In terms of ride and handling the Avventura feels stable at fast speed and takes out the stings from the worst roads. The suspension of Avventura has been improved. Anti-roll bar has been added at the rear that compensates higher ride height and makes the car more fun. The steering is crisp and responsive as well. The top end variant is fitted with an anti-lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution system that reinforces the braking mechanism.
Safety and equipment
Fiat Avventura comes with front air bags with early crash sensor and passenger airbag deactivation function, central locking system and automatic door locking system.
The Fiat Avventura comes as a charming car that promises to put a smile on your face. It may not be perfect but it's cool personality should appeal. If you want a car that looks different from others then go for Avventura.
