The most awaited car of this year with undoubtedly the most awaited engine is out! Honda City, one of the most popular sedan is now available with diesel motor. The new City which premiered in India has best in class fuel efficiency in both petrol and diesel models. The new improved Honda City offers one of the best space in the segment with the best mileage figures.

Honda has achieved a mileage certification of 26 km per liter for the diesel model, a figure which is undoubtedly the best in the segment. Honda has surpassed any expectation with the launch of new City in India

Honda City enters its fourth generation with the launch of City. The Japanese giant will commence the sale of the new City from first week of January and has already started taking the bookings of the car. Honda has done major changes to the new City. That includes a new CVT operated automatic version, which replaces the conventional 5-speed automatic gearbox.

One of the main highlight of new City is the diesel engine! Honda is using the same diesel engine which powers the Amaze in City, the best part? The figures of the Diesel engine used in City are better than the Amaze. The 1498cc engine with 16 valves, generates the maximum of 100PS at 3600 rpm with 200 Nm of maximum torque at 1750 rpm. The diesel engine is mated with 6-speed manual transmission and the combination results in the best mileage in this segment.

The petrol engine is a 1497cc motor, with a maximum power of 119 PS @ 6600 rpm with 145 Nm of maximum torque at 4600 rpm. The petrol model gets both the manual and CVT automatic transmission. The manual transmission has a rated efficiency of 17.8 km per liter while the automatic CVT returns 18 km per liter!

Even though the length of the Honda City remains unchanged, the wheelbase has been increased by 50mm, and the height has been stretched by 10mm. Honda philosophy of “Man Maximum and Machine Minimum,” can be experienced in the new City extensively. The new City is based on the Exciting H Design language of Honda and carries a silhouette of the older City generations. The new City looks aggressive as well elegant with the integrated four headlamp design. The rear of the City looks even more impressive with the new tail-lamp section with chrome garnish.

Inside, the City is as premium as it can be. Honda offers a big touch screen with automatic climate control and optional sunroof with the City. The huge 5-inch infotainment system makes the City, one of the best equipped car in the segment. The City is also equipped with the keyless entry and push-button start with an optional sunroof.

The car draws power from the same engine as Amaze but with 6-speed gearbox, economy has been improved by folds! Honda has also done massive improvements with the NVH levels. With new technology, Honda has reduced the friction and with improved cooling, Honda has managed to get the best mileage in India of 26 km/l in its diesel powered City.

Honda is yet to announce the prices, but the Earth Dream powered diesel City would cost as much as 90,000 more than the petrol version. Honda will give tough competition to the likes of Verna, Vento and SX4 and after being on the disadvantaged side of not featuring a diesel engine, Honda has retaliated with big guns! It is yet to be seen how Honda puts a price tag on the City, if played right, City can prove to be another match winner for Honda after the grand success of the Amaze.
